Patong Language School was closed last week for the Thai new year, Songkran, and with the weather mostly cooperating, there was no shortage of fun things to do in and around Patong.

The 17th annual Bike Week was held at Loma Park located on Patong Beach, just a ten minute walk from our training center. This massive beach party/concert/motorcycle show attracted motorcycle riders from all over Asia, local residents and some unsuspecting tourists. Concerts were held every night on the main stage. This year famous Thai rock stars Bowie, and P’Pong gave a show for Patong to remember. Away from the stage, there were plenty of things to see, eat and buy. Many booths showcased artwork, handmade crafts and jewelry from local Thai artists. Not to mention the variety of excellent food! It just gets bigger and better every year.

Bike Week was a perfect lead-up to the biggest water fight in the world, Songkran, which is when the Thais celebrate their traditional new year. The first splash of water in Patong was seen sometime during the evening of the 12th and the fighting did not stop until the early hours of the 14th. Over a day and a half of nonstop water fights. The frequent ice-cold streams of water coming from all directions were the perfect accompaniment to the hot sunny weather usually found in April. Soi Bangla was closed to traffic so that everyone could celebrate safely.

If you plan to enroll in one of our TEFL training courses, planning your trip around Songkran and Bike Week would definitely be a great time to visit Patong.
